10 Wisdom Keys for the Newbie©

Dax L'Amour, Ph.D

To a newbie coming online for the first few weeks or months,

it's like going to Disneyworld---everything is wonderful.

But what is actually being done is a total "psyche-job".

The newbie is bombarded with millions of bits of

information that just is not true.

It takes some experience, or some guidance to sort

through all the crap and get to the real nourishment

that the newbie is seeking.

Time after time, newbie after newbie gets sucked in to situations

that are nearly impossible to turn to their best benefit.

So, my Newbie Friend, let me dispel a few or the myths for you,

and replace them with some wisdom---it'll save you a lot

of frustration, time, and a ton of money.

1.  You WON'T make $10k per month with any opportunity----

unless it is by an inexplicable miracle.

"But", you say, "I saw this guy's site and he had a screenshot

of his Paypal earnings that proved it."

Ok.  Let's "un-prove" it.

In your search bar, type in http://www.google.com

when that page comes up, look above the search bar

for the word "images"...click that.

Now, in the search box type "Fake paypal earnings"

Look at what comes up on the page.  You get the picture there.

That works for anything, clickbank, alexa, etc---so now you know.

You CAN make $10k per month,

AFTER you know what you're doing

and AFTER you get several things going for you,

which I'll describe in this article.

2.  You WON'T "work 2-4 hours per week and make big bucks".

Not even those millionaire gurus can do that.

Heck, they use 2 hours per day, just jotting down

their thoughts about what they want to accomplish that day.

Running a business is a full-time thing,

and if you want to make some great income,

it will take some time and effort to get it where

you can only work it a few hours a week,

but that comes with learning, doing, and a little experience.

It can be done, however, after you gain some experience.

3.  "Join me and I'll give you 50k free leads".

Think about that for a second.

It takes time, money, effort, and focus to obtain each individual lead.

To a business person, every lead is precious.

A lead  has the potential of making you some income,

possibly more than once.

So, if that's the case,

who will give you leads that they can use themselves?

No sane marketer will ever give away a good lead.

Bet your life that those leads are useless and

a waste of your time and money.

Get your own leads by building your own list, and keep it safe.

That list is your lifeline out of this recession if you use it beneficially.

4.  "Join my program and you'll get spillover

(free sign ups to your down line without your effort).

I place that promise in the same category as

"the check' s in the mail"  and

"the government has no record of UFOs or aliens".

I've been around a long time, and been in many programs...

and have yet to see spillover, or know of anyone who has seen it.

Spillover is like the Tooth Fairy--sounds cute--

but really isn't a reality that you can count on.

5.   "You don't need a website or list".

Look on the internet.

Every darn thing you see is a website or part of a website.

What makes you think that YOU don't need your own?

And, there is NO WAY you will ever make any appreciable

income UNLESS you have your own  website/blog

and list of prospects to communicate with.

Sorry, but that's just business.

Even the restaurant down the street from you knows

who their customers are and they have a website.

The same logic goes for all those opportunities that give everyone

a replicated website, autoresponder with emails,

and marketing material.

Guess what?

Everybody gets the same thing---then everybody markets

it the same prescribed way.

An opportunity could have tens of thousands

of people doing the exact same thing.

I have in the past received in my inbox as many as 11 identical,

one following the other, emails saying:

"I got 27 sign ups and made $400 while I slept!".

These were from 11 different marketers and the mails hit my inbox

within 6 minutes of each other.

How believable is that?  Do the math...the likelihood of that occurring

identically to 11 different people in the same 12-hour span

is a near impossibility.

And the struggling marketer wonders why he/she

isn't going anywhere with that opportunity.

Then sometimes they go broadcast that the thing is a "scam".

Get your own personal autoresponder,

get a blog if not a website, build your own list...

then---send your subscribers to that replicated site

via your newsletter.

Teach them to do the same.

You'll get far greater results.

6.  "Free Trial" or It's only $1 to get started".

Go ahead and look at them, there DEFINITELY will be

some kind of charge, usually an expensive monthly forced charge

in the small print somewhere.

Fall for that one---and you'll be giving up your

first born at the end of the month, and you wont

even realize it til it happens.

Then it'll take another month to get out of the program.

Look for things that are up-front in their advertising copy,

that tell all the details.

Then you can make a logical decision as to whether

this item is pertinent or relative to your goals.

One logical strategy:  when reading the site,

if it does not give you enough information to make a

moderately intelligent decision or form an opinion,

then there may be something that is not being told to you---

something that if you knew, you would not sign up

for more information.

Another strategy:  when you see an offer like that,

look for fine print--- sometimes it's microscopic,

but look for it anyway.

If it is there, it will reveal the "hook".

7.  "free autoresponder" or "free hosting".

My opinion---from experience and from the experience

of my past students concerning these two is this:

free autoresponders are owned by someone else,

meaning, you have little control---and zero ownership

of the list you create with it.

Plus, most have imbedded marketing messages

with every email you send to your subscribers---

which will effectively dilute any message

you are trying to convey to your subscriber.

Then, later if you decide to obtain a personal professional

autoresponder, it is very difficult to move your subscribers to

the new autoresponder.

Free hosting is much the same---imbedded ads,

and you have no control.  Plus, you do not own the site.

You may have to begin with these two options if

you are starting your Venture on a slim financial budget,

but when you can and it is feasibly possible---

get your own.  You will own them, and give a professional

business image to your visitors and subscribers.

One of the ways the "old Internet guys" can tell who the Newbies are:

newbies are the ones using free autoresponders and free hosting.

8.  new, bright, shiny opportunity or product

Tens of thousands of good, deserving people fall for this every week.

Everybody and their relatives seem to be promoting

the "newest" thing--- the thing that is supposed

to end all your troubles, make you walk on water,

heal the sick/raise the dead,  or make you millions.

The new, bright-and-shiny-miracle product that

is promoted today (this date)

will be in somebody's resale rights program

or even given away free within 90 days or 6 months.

Look closely at it...will it really solve your problem?---

or your list's problems?

Or, is it that you just couldn't ignore/resist the advertising copy?

How about those opportunities that are "lava-HOT!" at the moment?

Do this:  take a sheet of paper.  Write down all the "hot"

opps/products being marketed to your inbox today,

and the rest of this week.

Stick that up somewhere, where it will be visible to you

one month from now.

Then, a month from now, take a look at your inbox.

There won't be many on that list that will be marketed to your inbox.

Even less in 2-3 months.

6 months from now, NONE on that list will be marketed.

So, that opportunity that you see today that is supposed to

"make you retire in 1 year", or "make you give your boss the finger",

or other unbelievable claims...

they only work IF YOU continue to work them,

AND they are around long enough.

9.  Join this social site and get leads/make money

From the data I've gathered over the last four years regarding this---

from interviews with "gurus" to University research papers---

only about 1/3 of one percent of the money you will make online will

come from the results of your being a member or promoter of a social site.

Today, most of what you will see is

"one marketer marketing to another marketer".

Imagine this---

two used car salesmen working at the same dealership,

each one is trying to sell the other--

one of the dealeship's used cars.

That's a crude-but-close illustration of what is happening

in the social sites today.

However, I will say this as well:

you will make some good friends, possibly make some

future partner relationships, possibly a great joint venture partner

for the future... but even that may take quite a while to come about.

So, join the social sites, focus on building professional

relationships (NOT buying/selling), don't let the SPAM bother you

(and there will be tons of that), but don't consider social sites

as one of your "money-makers".

But wait!  Of all the social "instruments" that are actually useful,

there is one that is a "must-do".  That one is Twitter.

Check it out.  It is free, never any cost at all.

Here's my link---if you like what you see you can join there.

opposite from working for someone else.

You make decisions, you schedule your time,

you determine when and how much to be paid.

Never spend any more money running your business

than is necessary.

Use logic instead of emotion in making business decisions.

Stay abreast of the trends, and the advancement of the Internet.

Do not, and you will lose your way.
