Definition of a "Newbie
copyright Dax L'Amour, Ph.D
Whoa!...this term goes back, I mean way back from the time I first heard it back in the late
50's-early 60's. I was an American kid attending British schools overseas, and since my Dad was a U.S. Naval officer, we moved frequently,
therefore, I was a perpetual "newbie" to those Brit lads.
The next time I encountered this term, "newbie" was in the Marines in Vietnam. Once again-- you guessed it--
I was a "newbie". Thank goodness that didn't last long.
The term today is not derogatory term at all--except in some forums dominated by "old forum vets", where any
newcomer is labeled "newbie".
But in general terms, "newbie" just simply is a description of a newcomer, or someone who is not versed in the
aspects of the Internet---yet.
The term does not signify any lack of intelligence, or worth, or wisdom---just simply means
"you're new here, right?"
So, if you are a "newbie", don't get your panties all in a knot when someone uses that word to describe
you.
Every single person you will meet on the 'Net was a "newbie" at one time.
And, yes, every single one of us knows how it feels, and what you're up against.
