Newbie, How Suited Are You to Online Business?
copyright Dax L'Amour, Ph.D
There are a few very simple ideas of which every Newbie
should be aware before they jump headlong into Online
Entrepreneurship.
These ideas are simple, but provide the very basic foundation
on which future success will be achieved.
Most mentors/teachers/trainors---whatever they call themselves
today---generally skip right over these and go straight into the deep stuff.
However, these concepts are critical as to the success of anyone
new to the Internet.
So, My Newbie Friend, make sure you get at least a few of these
down---and a major part of the battle will have already been won.
Ready? Well, here you go:
1. Do you have a deep desire/willingness to learn?
Sure, you have to know the basics and the intermediate stuff. But, the Internet now is changing very rapidly. It seems like it changes monthly.
To be successful, you will have to understand that this will be an on-going learning situation. With all the changes that are happening at this moment and considering what is proposed for the future, a perpetual learning situation is what will be the norm.
All of us will have to keep abreast, and adapt as necessary.
2. Do you have an available, "proper" workspace?
Some people do not think this is a "biggie". Think, however, if this is your business, and this is the means by which you propose to conquer the recession or financial woes, then your workspace should be as business-like and efficient as possible.
Think about the validity of that statement for a minute.
You are running a business---treat it like it's your lifeline out of the rut. Make it a proper workspace and part of the profit-killing distractions will not happen.
3. Can you create a "certain" daily
schedule, and stick to it without endless distractions?
There will be tasks that will have to be completed, some on a daily basis.
You can not tolerate or allow distractions, or you will most certainly lose your way---and money.
There will be days when you can work one hour, some days two, some days none at all. But, take a look at your week ahead and make a certain schedule that you know you can keep.
You may have to break up any work session into 2, 3, or 4 parts. But do something to run your business!
And do it when you've planned to do it.
4. Do you like the idea of working from the home?
To some people this is a godsend, to others it presents so many potential distractions.
You have to be in charge of your business 100%, whether it's out of the garage or attic, a bedroom, kitchen table, or anywhere else.
Wherever you choose as a "place" of business around the home, remember it is your business, and get everyone else around the home to understand that as well.
5. How much support do you have from close family members and
friends?
Believe it or not, this can make or break your business immediately.
In the beginning, you will be on your computer longer than what others around you think you should be. You will be learning and creating---and that takes time. Some family members or friends may not understand that. To avoid any future misunderstandings or hurt feelings, take a few minutes to explain your intentions, what you'll be doing, when you will be doing it, and how it will be of benefit in the future.
They'll usually understand once you explain it all to them. In doing that, you will uncover any doubts or questions anyone may have, and be able to straighten it all out before a problem arises. It is easier all the way around.
Beware of those "psychic vampires", you know---the ones who say "you can't do it", or "you won't succeed", etc. Everybody has a few of those. Don't worry about them.
If they had any guts or smarts, they'd be right there beside you doing the same thing you are doing.
6. Do you have determination?
How serious are you about working and making a living online?
How many obstacles are you willing to overcome to be successful?
Develop within yourself a "stick-to-it-ness", and it will pay off.
Anybody of lesser quality than you would give up and quit.
But you will not.
So, there.
7. How are your communication skills, and interactive skills?
Face it, once you get on the Internet, somebody's going to want to communicate with you in some way or another.
And, you will be communicating with all the folks on your lists.
You do not have to be eloquent, or perfect, just be yourself.
If that's not good enough for them, then you don't want to communicate with that sort anyway.
Be personable, truthful, honest, and ethical. Give more than what is asked.
Be someone who can "over deliver", and you'll go far---very far.
Communication is what causes the money to come into your account.
So, don't be afraid to do what is necessary in this. Oh, and you will do a lot of writing...but it's fun after you get used to it.
8. Do you have an "independent mindset"?
I probably don't have to explain this one at all. Just know that all successful Entrepreneurs are highly independent.
They make their own decisions, rules of process, and set their own standards.
Independent does not mean "isolated", but it does mean that there is no one more suited to making your decisions than yourself.
9. Can you create your own plan of action?
You have to have some sort of plan in the works. Even if it consists only of today's plan.
Know what you need to accomplish, and create a plan of action to get it accomplished.
Huge plan or small plan--have one for every time you sit down to work.
10. Can you take action on a plan/decision?
This is the most critical point you can learn at this time.
Einstein said, "Nothing happens until something moves"...and that is very appropriate here.
Once you've got your plans in order, the only way they will work is by your taking action.
Like I mentioned before, just DO something beneficial---even if it is only something small for now.
Don't let anything get in the way of your accomplishing (taking an action) at least one progressive thing every day in your business.
11. Do you have a little creativity, or a desire to be creative?
There is nothing like seeing something you created on the Internet. Whether it's a little one-page site, or a blog, or a lead capture page, it is a wonderful experience. Don't be afraid, that creativity is inside you and has been since you were a
baby.
It might have been suppressed for a while, but it is that creativity that will make you the most income online. Imagine creating a little free report that brings you a few hundred subscribers, or a little 20-page book that sells a thousand copies over a couple of weeks.
It's in there---inside you.
When it comes out and you put it up on the 'Net and it makes you money, creativity will gush out every pore. It will refuse to be hidden from then on.
12. Do you have definite financial needs?
I guess that could be a stupid question, huh?
Well, there's no motivation like the motivation that one can get from money. Or the lack thereof.
Yes, if there is a definite benefit from changing your financial situation for the better, then the Internet is the prime place to get that accomplished. Set your financial goals and targets, make them a definite intention---then fight like a Spartan to get it. It can be done---people from all backgrounds are doing it at the same moment you are reading this.
You can do it as well.
And, you will!
